Nicholaus Copernicus, a Renaissance mathematician and astronomer, proposed that Earth rotates around the Sun. The theory, known as a heliocentric theory eventually upended the once widely accepted geocentric model. While highly controversial at the time, Importantly, Copernicus’ model has been scientifically validated.
