Teaching the Controversy

Resources

Studying information produced by evolution believers and skeptics gives insight into the range of current controversies surrounding the theory of evolution – essential for “teaching the controversy” for the “Great Debate.”

Scientific evidence does not play sides. Studies performed by evolution scientists present the best arguments challenging the theory of evolution. For example, Jerry Coyne at the University of Chicago wrote in “Why Evolution is True” –

“We must stop pretending we understand the course of natural selection.”

According to Niles Eldredge (pictured right), curator at the American Museum of Natural HistoryEldredge, Niles

“In the literal sense of the word, no doubt, natural selection is a false term; but who ever objected to chemists speaking of the elective affinities of the various elements?”

Eugene KooninEugene V. Koonin (pictured left) in his book The Logic of Chance, the Nature and Origin of Biological Evolution, argued –

“The genomic revolution… effectively overturned the central metaphor of evolutionary biology, the Tree of Life.”

Using statements by evolution advocates and skeptics on any subject demonstrates your knowledge and builds your credibility to “teach the controversy.”
