What natural selection critics say highlights the challenges facing evolution scientists in their pursuit of a cohesive theory of evolution. Even Darwin was a critic of natural selection –
“There seems to be no more design in the variability of organic beings, and in the action of natural selection, than in the course which the winds blow.”
No big surprise, then, natural selection ironically became Darwin’s biggest problem. In his own words –
“Natural selection… is by far the most serious special difficulty which my theory has encountered.”
Since 1859, evolutionary scientists have increasingly appreciated Darwin’s angst over his main thesis – natural selection.
